The Fairies of NutFolk Woods

Hello!I know I haven't posted in a long time. I am still reading Little Women, but I'm in the second part! Beth recovered from scarlet fever, but she is always going to be a little sick.

MEG HAS GOTTEN MARRIED!!! Meg just had a wedding. It wasn't a fancy wedding, just one with all of their friends. Meg married John Brooke, Laurie's tutor, who got a tiny house for them, but it is beautiful.

Amy is sixteen, and I am reading about what art she had done. She had done plaster and clay, sketching, crayon drawings, and even more!

Can't wait to post more!

Literary Letter

Dear Mamou,
Hello! How are you? I am reading Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. The genre is realistic fiction. I really, really enjoy it. Here is my summary.
Little Women is about four girls; Meg, Amy, Jo, and Beth; that have problems in their lives. Amy; the youngest; has to go to mean Aunt March's house. Meg; the oldest; gets teased by funny Laurie next door. Jo; the second oldest; has a bubbling temper that explodes, and then Beth had a baby die on her lap from scarlet fever, and then Beth caught it! A problem for all of them was that Mother went away to cure Father when Beth was sick.
There is a lot of happiness, too. Jo and Laurie have jokes and races. Meg enjoys herself doing who-knows-what. Beth plays the piano and does other things, too. Amy draws and does somethings that I do not know.
That is mostly what I've read in the last couple of days.
The character I like the most is Beth because she never complains and I respect that.
Your granddaughter,
Palina

The Rough-Face Girl by Rafe Martin

The Rough-Face girl lives on Lake Ontario in wigwams. The rough-Face girl (tends the fire, and gets burnt and scarred, and that is why she was called The Rough-Face Girl), lives with her very poor father and two older and hard-hearted sisters. Her sisters ask for beautiful things and their father gives them those things. They proudly stride through the village wearing these things. They do this because they want to marry the Invisible Being. The Invisible Being is a man who is so big . Many women wanted to marry him, but no one could see him, so no one could marry him. The sisters did not answer the questions that the I.B.'s sister asks them. One day, the rough-face Girl asks her father kindly for some pretty things, but the father has none. Instead, he only has some broken shells. The rough-face girl wears these and also makes some strange clothing. After this, she walks through the village, and people laugh and yell at her. But still, she keeps walking to marry the I.B. When she comes to the I.B.'s home, the sister of the I.B. asks the same questions the sister asked the two older sisters. The rough-face girl gets the questions right!!!!!!!! The rough-face girl gets to marry the Invisible Being and they never have parted.

What I Have Been Reading

I have not posted in a long time, but these are the books I have been reading. I have been reading Little Women, and it is a very, very, very splendid book. It is about four girls and their mother. Their father is at war, and I do not know what war he is in. The girls' names are Margaret(the sisters call her Meg), Josephine(the sisters call her Jo), Elizabeth(the sisters call her Beth), and Amy. Meg is the oldest, Amy the youngest, Jo the older middle, and Beth the younger middle. They go through so many hardships, but there is lots of happiness, too. It also has beautiful pictures. Oh! I almost forgot! The author is Louisa May Alcott.

The other book I have been reading is the second book of Ember, it is called The People of Sparks. I finished it on the night of the 12th because I stayed up till 10:50 reading! There was a fire and Lina helped put it out. there was a fire because some of the Emberites were fighting. It was a really, really, really cool book!

South Carolina

These are three things I learned in this non-interesting book:

  1. Black Beard was a real pirate.
  2. The capital is Columbia.
  3. The Yamasee natives lived in the upcountry, while the fierce Westo lived in the lowcountry.

Details of Sarah Nita (the story)

This book took place in northwestern New Mexico in the late 19th century. When Sarah Nita and her sister found their mommy, they were at Fort Sumner in southeast NM. They were at Fort Sumner because the Union Soldiers forced the Navajos to go there by walking. A lot of Navajos died along the way. Sarah Nita told the story of The Long Walk (the walk to Fort Sumner) to her daughter. Those are the details.

Sarah Nita (continued)

In the end, Sarah Nita finds her parents by searching and then, at the end of the day, she and her sister see three ladies walking out of the fort, and one of them is her mommy! Her father was sick, so Sarah Nita helps her father by giving him corn that had to be washed for it was in horse dung. She marries her cousin because her cousin had protected her. It is a very good book because I like fictional diarys and this book is one! I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did!

The Girl Who Chased Away Sorrow by Ann Turner

The Girl Who Chased Away Sorrow is a fiction diary of Sarah Nita, a Navajo girl. When the soldiers come, they kill Sarah Nita's mama and dadda and burn down their houses. While that is happening, Sarah Nita and her younger sister were somewhere else. Since they lost their parents, they walk to a canyon where their dad has said that family members are. That is all I have read.

Beauty and the Beast by Sarah Hines Stephens

I read Beauty and the Beast yesterday night and it is very good. It is almost like the movie. Beauty lives in a rich family and then they have to live in the country. Beauty loves the Beast just the way he is, and when Beauty tells Beast she can marry him, he turns into a prince. I loved it.
